Design & Manufacturing of a Control System for Consumer Home Comfort Device

An international leader in the consumer home comfort industry asked Etratech to complete a design for manufacture (DFx) exercise to help identify product and process improvements to their capacitive sensing comfort box. Etratech responded by delivering a complete turnkey solution featuring an optimized PCB assembly with a water tight enclosure, wire assemblies, and complete consumer packaging.

Etratech’s global supply chain management team helped provide the pricing advantage and delivery performance required and expected by an international market leader.

Additional processes and procedures for this product included lead-free paste stenciling, laser date code marking, component placement by way of a Panasonic CM402L SMT high speed automated placement line, reflow, with AOI capabilities used to ensure proper placement. Additional through-hole placement and lead-free wave soldering was also a requirement specified by the customer. The total dimensions of the PCB were 3.33" in length and 1.925" in height, with tightness tolerances of ±.003".

A Maestro rotating blade cutter was used to de-panel the outer shell, we then installed the PCB unit into its plastic housing. Functional testing of the complete assembled product was completed with a final test fixture that was designed and fabricated in-house by our machinists. All finished products are placed and packed into individual anti-static bags, and then packed individually into the final customer specified shipping box.
